Regenerative Procedures
Regenerative medicine is, without doubt, a game-changing area of medicine. It has the potential to repair tissue in damaged joints, muscles and tendons. Because stem cells are the basic building blocks of all human tissue, they hold great potential for treating damaged or diseased tissue. At Seattle Sports and Regenerative Medicine, Dr. Wagner uses only your own body’s stem cells to regrow, repair and replace damaged or diseased tissue within the musculoskeletal system, including shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles. Over the past several years, Dr. Wagner has successfully performed over twenty thousand stem cell procedures for patients throughout the Puget Sound as well as across the United States and beyond. This has been accomplished without any negative side effects. These procedures are performed in our office, with local anesthesia, taking approximately one hour.
As exciting and successful as regenerative medicine is when properly performed, it is important to note that not all patients are candidates for regenerative procedures. By extracting stem cells from an area of high volume, then concentrating the cells and reinjecting them into the damaged area, the body is naturally able to heal from within. The results from this treatment have been overwhelmingly successful.
Dr. Wagner is clearly the leader in regenerative procedures, including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell Therapy, in the Northwest.
Platelet Rich Plasma
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma? Platelet-Rich Plasma is made up of two elements: plasma, which is the liquid portion of blood, and platelets which are blood cells, instrumental in healing throughout the body. Platelets also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in a treated area. Platelet-Rich Plasma is simply a blood sample, taken in our office, then placed in a device called a centrifuge. The computerized centrifuge spins the blood sample, leaving us with a highly concentrated sample of platelets. This Platelet-Rich Plasma is then injected into the affected area. This is a fairly quick office procedure, lasting approximately twenty minutes.
PRP is commonly used for treating conditions as tendonitis, bursitis, partial tendon tears, and osteoarthritis. This procedure has proven to be highly effective, with minimal downtime. For more information, please visit our website page on Stem Cell/PRP Therapy.
